Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is to arrive in Tripoli today in his first visit to Libya since his assumption of power in May. Diplomatic sources in Tripoli said the Nigerian president will hold discussions with Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Gaddafi tackling current African conditions, preparations for convening an exceptional African summit hosted by Libya at the beginning of September, and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Libya. The Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am said that the Kuwaiti Cabinet has approved a recommendation by the higher council for oil on increasing prices of fuels in Kuwait. Well-informed sources told al-Rai al-Am that the recommendation approved by the Cabinet in its Sunday's session will be valid as from Wednesday Yesterday) at a rate ranges between 30 to 40 percent, noting that the fuel stations started to programming their pumps according to the new prices. The sources explained that the increase in the fuel price will cover Benzene, diesel, gas and gas cylinders. Go

The International Committee of the Red Cross on Wednesday called for providing urgent aid to more than 50,000 persons who were harmed as a result of floods resulting from the heavy rainfall in the central and northern parts of Sudan and destroyed more than 10,000 houses. Go

The temporary chairman of the Israeli Likud Party, Ariel Sharon, has reiterated his stances toward the occupied Syrian Golan. He said his party will work for pushing the current Israeli government led by Ehud Barak to keep the Golan under Israeli sovereignty. The French airline Air France signed Thursday a code-sharing accord with Tunisian air company. The accord, to be enforced starting in 2000, provides for the mutual exploitation of the two countries' routes, coordination in flights timing, booking, computing management and airplane engine overhauls. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism decided to inaugurate a bureau for activating tourism in Ukraine and issue tourism news in the Russian language so Ukrainian tourists can be informed about Egyptian tourism. Go

Ahmed El-Maghrebi, the head of board of directors of the French company Accor in Egypt, said that the number of hotels run by the company in Egypt has currently reached 23 and that the company is planning to increase this number to 40 during the next few years.
