Iran-Turkey, Politics, 8/12/1999
the Chairman of the Iranian delegation, taking part in the sixth meeting of the Joint higher security committee between Iran and Turkey Ghulam Hussein Balandian has described his talks with the Turkish side in Ankara as positive.
The Iranian News Agency quoted on Wednesday the chairman of the Iranian delegation as saying that two rounds of talks were held between the two delegations in an atmosphere of fraternity and understanding.
Balandian added that during these talks discussions dealt with border and joint security co-operation relations were reviewed, adding the two sides reached initial agreements and have worked to eliminate the vagueness that prevailed relations between the two countries in recent times.
The chairman of the Iranian delegation explained that during the discussions they debated the Turkish aggressions against the Iranian territories. He added that the Turkish side pledged to take appropriate measures for not repeating such events in the future. He stressed that the Iranian delegation stressed the announcement of the results of investigations made by the Turkish delegation which held a visit to Iran for this end. He called on the Turkish official to offer an official apology and compensate the losses and damages inflicted in the citizens as a result of the aggressions.
The two sides, however, are expected to sign a cooperation agreement between the two countries.
