Moroccan minister hails partnership accord project between government and textile professionals
Morocco, Economics, 8/12/1999
Moroccan Industry Minister Alami Tazi underlined Wednesday in Rabat the importance of the draft partnership accord between government and textile professionals for the development of the sector and its competitiveness.
At a meeting with the textile industrialists, the Moroccan minister said the projected partnership will contribute to fostering cooperation between the private and public sectors for the modernization of the textile industry, creating job opportunities and sustaining the country's socioeconomic development process.
The Moroccan minister also said the draft agreement provides for several fiscal and administrative incentives in favor of Moroccan clothing professionals to enable them counter the international global market challenges.
In 1998, the Moroccan garment-textile sector posted $2.4 billion, representing a 4.1% increase compared to 1997. Morocco counts 1,603 clothing factories whose exports progressed in 1998 by 6.1% to $1.4 billion.
Morocco is Europe's 7th supplier of clothing items, behind China, Turkey, India, Hong Kong, Tunisia and Poland.
