Morocco's agribusiness up 6.4 percent in 1998

Morocco's agribusiness produced in 1998 around $ 5.2 bln representing a 6.4 % increase compared with the performance made by the sector in 1997. A report released by Moroccan Entrepreneurs Union ( CGEM- Confederation Generale Des Entreprises du Maroc) says the sector, counting 1,641 units, posted about $ 700 Mln turnover, yielding $ 1.8 Mln in value added.
The sector, which employs about 100,000 persons and plays an important role in Morocco's economy, accounts for 35 % in the country's processing industries and 22 % in overall exports.
