Israeli occupation forces attack civilian assets, electricity stations
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 8/11/1999
Israeli artillery on Tuesday destroyed an electricity station in the town of Barachit which feeds eight villages in the western sector of south Lebanon.
Lebanese security sources said that the station was directly hit, adding that it is the second attack against a power distribution station in south Lebanon and that the Israeli occupation forces on Monday bombarded an electricity relay station in al-Lweizeh town in al-Tuffah district resulting in cutting off electricity supply from the area.
At noon, the Israeli occupation forces bombarded the Jarjou -Lweiseh road intensively, and the bombardment resulted in cutting electricity from the targeted area.
News reports from south Lebanon said the Israeli bombardment covered the woods of Sujoud and al-Rayhan, al-Jabal, al-Rafe, the al-Zahrani river course and the surroundings of Mleita and Lwieseh. The bombardment coincided with mopping-up operations by machine guns against houses in Lweiseh.
A Lebanese security source reported that the Israeli occupation forces in the context of a plan to reinforce their positions constructed a road from al-Abbad position to al-Dawawer position, near the occupied town of Haula passing through al-Qaba, Markaba, al-Tibeh project and al-Salaa positions.
The occupation forces warned citizens and sedan cars not to use this road. The source added that several Israeli bulldozers had levelled the road and transported the displaced soil to other areas, adding that the construction of the new road resulted in heavy losses in olive orchards, fruit trees and plantations.
In retaliation, one Lebanese resistance group on Tuesday bombarded the Israeli Sujoud position, using machine guns and rockets.
In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said it destroyed some northern fortifications in the Israeli position. The resistance had attacked the Israeli and Israeli-allied militia positions in Balat and al-Hardoun.
