Owner of al-Shifaa factory sues the US
Sudan-USA, Politics, 8/11/1999

The owner of al-Shifaa medicinal factory in Sudan, Salah Idris, intends to sue the United States in court and demand US $30 million in compensation for striking the factory in 1998.

The US Time Magazine said on Monday that Idris will try to restore his reputation and the money he had lost following the bombardment, carried out under the pretext that he was producing components of chemical weapons in the factory.

The magazine said that Idris went to a law firm in Washington to discuss this matter, but a US official who asked not to be identified stressed that the acts carried out by the US government can not be tried before a court, in the course of international law pertaining to sovereignty.
