Iran welcomes Saudi call to eliminate regional weapons of mass destruction
Saudi Arabia-Iran, Politics, 8/11/1999
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi has welcomed the call advocated by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz to eliminate weapons of mass destruction from the Middle East.
In a statement he made in Tehran on Tuesday, Kharazi praised Saudi Arabia's stance in this regard and described it as principled. He indicated Israel's deliberate position in refusing to joining international agreements and treaties pertaining to the weapons of mass destruction.
Kharazi added that Israel is the only party in the region which refuses for its nuclear institutions to be under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He asserted that Israel constitutes the main threat to the Middle East due to the mass annihilation weapons it owns.
