Report: Israeli plan to dismember Syrian, Lebanese tracks
Regional-Israel, Politics, 8/10/1999

The Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas said Sunday that European diplomatic sources unveiled an Israeli plan aimed at separating the Syrian and Lebanese peace tracks through disseminating rumors via certain diplomatic channels speaking of Israeli's acceptance of withdrawal from the whole of the Golan against setting up early-warning system stations on Lebanese mountain summits, and that two summits from al-Qernah al-Sawda (black corner), Sannin, al-Barouk and Hermon would be used to establish these stations.

The paper said that Israeli experts had described the said Lebanese summits as "space stations," due to their heights.

The united Arab leadership led by Lt. Gen. Ali Amer, which was established in the 1960s, considered the establishment of a radar station on the al-Barouk summit which would be able to monitor the moves of the warplanes between al-Dardanil passage and the Suez Canal.
