Algerian interior minister says stability is returning
Algeria, Politics, 8/10/1999

Algerian Minister of the Interior Abdul Malik Sallal has asserted that security conditions have been continuously improving in Algeria during the few past months, adding that there are extremists who seek to foil the peace process pursued by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

In a televised statement on Sunday night, the Algerian minister warned that new aggressions will be launched by the extremists, adding that those "extremists" are seeking to implement a "scorched earth" policy and that there are still extremists, though they are a small minority.

Al-Sallal also stressed that the Algerian government has completed its preparations to carry out the referendum next month concerning a peace agreement in Algeria, reached earlier between President Bouteflika and the Islamic Salvation Army.
