Bahrain prefers Algerian mediation in its border disputes with Qatar
Bahrain-Algeria, Politics, 8/10/1999
The Algerian dailies al-Khabar and al-Mujahid on Monday expected that the short visit held on Sunday to Algeria by the Bahrain's crown prince and commander of the Bahraini army, Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad al-Khaleifa, has a link to the border problem with Qatar.
The two papers quoted a well-informed source as saying, "Manama prefers the mediation of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika due to his good relations with the two countries and his knowledge of the nature of disputes between them."
The border dispute between the two Gulf states is currently being heard by the International Court of Justice.
On Sunday, Bahrain's crown prince visited Algeria suddenly and left it directly following a luncheon banquet held by Bouteflika on his honor.
