Israeli occupation forces withdraw from al-Qantara
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 8/10/1999
The Israeli forces and the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia have evacuated al-Qantara position in the occupied part of south Lebanon.
The withdrawal was carried out due to the strikes of the Lebanese resistance men and the heavy losses the militia suffered daily.
Israel Radio said the Israeli security sources stated that this withdrawal falls in the context of strengthening the so-called security zone occupied by Israel in south Lebanon. The Israeli sources and their SLA militia allies were also obliged to withdraw and evacuate the Beit Yahoun position one month ago, due to the attacks of the Lebanese resistance.
Israel Radio reported an increase in the number of resistance attacks against Israeli and SLA positions.
In a statement on Monday, the Lebanese resistance said that one of its groups raided Israeli military positions al-Teibeh project in the occupied part of south Lebanon. The statement continued that another Lebanese resistance group on Monday attacked an infantry patrol on the road to Sujoud in the occupied part of south Lebanon, and a third resistance group attacked Sujoud position, using rockets and machine guns.
Meanwhile, Israeli jets on Monday afternoon renewed their raids on several districts in south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said Israeli jets raided the district of al-Arish valley, located between Qabriha and Toulin valleys. They fired four air-to-surface missiles on the targeted areas.
Lebanese security forces indicated that the Israeli military stationed in Muhibib and al-Tibeh project positions in the occupied part of south Lebanon bombarded the towns of Toulin, Qabreiha, Majdal Salem, al-Sawannah, al-Qeseyah valley and al-Hajir valley.
The shelling was accompanied by heavy machine-gun fire that targeted roads leading to these districts.

Lebanese security sources reported that Israeli warplanes fired 12 missiles, as black smoke billowed from the targeted areas, but there were no immediate reports on casualties.
