Yemen: Today issuing the final judgment in the case of major terrorism
Yemen, Judicial, 8/9/1999
A judgment of guilty was issued today to eight British Muslims accused of terrorism at the end of their trial in Yemen, the Washington Post said, adding that the eight men received sentences ranging from time served to seven years of imprisonment.
The Yemeni government accused the eight suspects of forming an armed gang and conspiring to attack Western interests in Yemen.
The suspects were arrested in December 1998 after stopping a car carrying three of them due to a roadblock. Police said they found TNT, missiles and mines in the car's trunk and that the suspects confessed during their detention of conspiring with a Yemeni terrorist group to blow up a major hotel, the U.K. embassy and other Western interests in Aden to help Yemen become an Islamic country.
