Barak to start implementing Wye River agreement in three weeks
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 8/7/1999

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak said that Israel will start implementing the items of the Wye River accord in three weeks without making any adjustments to the agreement.

Israeli television broadcast today the Israeli prime minister saying that implementation of the agreement will start on September 1, but Barak informed his government that redeployment in the West Bank will not start before October 5, more than 10 months after the date specified by the agreement.

Barak said the Wye River accord will be fully implemented as planned and that this implementation will take place during the coming weeks, starting with items that include freeing the Palestinian detainees.

Barak said he intends to delay the Israeli troop withdrawal from areas of the West Bank called for by the accord to the beginning of October.
