1.9 million Egyptians work in Arab states
Egypt, Economics, 8/7/1999

Saudi Arabia tops the list of the Arab states in which Egyptians work.

A study released by central department for Egyptian statistic said that there are 924,000 Egyptians working in Saudi Arabia out of a total of 1.9 million Egyptians working in the Arab states.

Libya is in the second position with 233,000 Egyptians working there, then Jordan, with 227,000.

In addition, 191,000 Egyptians work in Kuwait, while 59,000 work in the United Arab Emirates, 66,000 work in Iraq, and 25,000 work in Qatar.

The report recorded that there are 22,000 Egyptians working in Yemen, 15,000 in Oman and 4,000 Egyptians working in Bahrain.

This study records only legal workers and those who are recorded by contracts of specified lengths.

The number of workers went down from 21 million in 1996 due to the Gulf states' policy of reducing expatriate employment and depending on national workers in light of the fall in petroleum prices.
