Libyan opposition member executed says group

The National Front For the Salvation of Libya has announced that a former Libyan official was executed on Wednesday July 28, 1999 in Bani Waleed town.

In a statement, the front explained that al-Wafi Muhammad Anbeh, who has been arrested since October 1993 ( the foiled coupe attempt Ram Waleed) was strangled in one of the public squares in Bani Waleed and that the authorities refused to hand over the body to his family for burial.

The front indicated that al-Wafi occupied in the past the post of Libya's ambassador in Chad and the post of the chairman of the secret affairs office at the Libyan foreign ministry. In January 2, 1997 Libya carried out death sentences in 8 persons who are convicted in the case of what was called " October lntifada" in 1993.

The " Salvation front" indicated that al-Wafi Anbeh was not sentenced to death during the trial of persons who were accused in the foiled coupe attempt. The front noted it does not know whether al-Wafi was retried and was sentences to death. It added that since 1993 al-Wafi has been jailed in Abi Saleem prison in Tripoli.

According to the group, and The National Front For the Salvation of Libya (NFSL) was established in October 1981 to oppose the current government, and is committed to the overthrow of the current government for a democratic and constitutional alternative. In previous statements to ArabicNews.com. the group claimed no central location and claimed worldwide membership. Most recently, it also accused the government of mass demolition of houses of opposition members.
