Arab and Islamic communities call for boycotting Burger King restaurants
Palestine-International, Politics, 8/7/1999
Arab communities in the US on Friday called for boycotting the chain of Burger King restaurants which have recently opened a carry out restaurant in one of the Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank.
The executive director of the organization of the US group American Muslims for Jerusalem, Khalid Turaani, told Reuters in a telephone conversation that there is no problem, with Burger King except that they have opened a restaurant in the settlement of Maali Adomim, which is a stolen land Israel confiscated in 1967.
Turaani said the Arab and Muslim communities have expressed their regret through hundreds of messages by mail or e-mail to Burger King, adding that the latters lacked any positive response, a matter which required a boycott.
He added that Burger King has to close the restaurant and to guarantee, in a statement, not to open other restaurants in the occupied Arab territories for the boycott to be lifted.
