Morocco will remain at vanguard of human rights protection
Morocco, Politics, 8/6/1999

Morocco will remain at the vanguard in matters of human rights protection and its options in the field are "irreversible."

The statement was made by Khalid Alioua, spokesman for the government, at a press briefing Thursday following the weekly meeting of the government council, held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Abderrahmane Youssoufi.

Morocco's options in the field of human rights are "irreversible," he said, adding that Morocco devised a program, took the necessary measures and was endowed with specialized institutions entitled to follow up on the situation of human rights.

Relatedly, the United Nations Human Rights Sub-Commission, currently meeting in Geneva, has paid tribute to the late King Hassan II for his efforts in matters of human rights promotion and protection.
