Arab meetings to confront Israeli nuclear activity
Regional, Politics, 8/5/1999

The Arab League's general trusteeship has called the committee responsible for following up on Israeli nuclear activity breaching the non-proliferation treaty to convene its sixth meeting at AL headquarter on August 22.

The committee has called for unification of the Arab efforts to confront pressures exerted by the USA and Israel on the International Atomic Energy Agency not to insert the Israeli nuclear capabilities on the agenda of the 43rd session of the general conference to held by the IAEA next month.

It was decided to convene the 10th meeting of the Arab technical committee concerned with preparing a project to free the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction on September 24 - 25.

The technical committee is studying the continuation of formulating the draft system for the mechanism of supervision, investigation and private inspection concerning the regional treaty.

Moreover, the AL's general trusteeship prepared a plan for the Arab foreign minister's council to address during its meeting at the beginning of September.

The plan aims at inserting on the agenda of its conference for the year 2000 the subject of freeing the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction.
