Syria will ask for one third of Israel if Israel continues to raise the question of the Golan
Syria-European Union, Politics, 8/5/1999

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa asserted during his meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Tarja Halonen that Damascus will demand from Israel one third of the lands it occupied between the years 1948 and 1967 if Israel continues to raise the question of the Golan's borders.

Al-Sharaa said, "Some (in Israel) speak about certain territories Syria seized by means of force before the year 1967," adding that in this case Israel has to expect that it will be asked the same thing for the territories it occupied by means of force between the years 1948 and 1967.

Al-Sharaa meant by that al-Buteiha, Tabaraya coast and al-Hemmeh, which represent the difference between the Golan territories with the international borders for 1923 and the border of June 1967.
