Libya-USA, Economics, 8/5/1999
The US authorities have permitted two oil groups to send delegates to Libya in order to evaluate the condition of properties they left there since sanctions were imposed on Libya in 1986.
The Nicosia-based Middle East Economic Survey magazine said in its most recent issue said that members of Ouzis, Amirada Hiss, Conoco and Marathon as well as members of the Occidental Petroleum group were permitted to each send two delegates, one an advisor and the second either a lawyer or an administrator.
The magazine stated that the aim behind this mission in addition to evaluate the conditions of the properties and to estimate the benefit of returning to Libya, where oil fields are held by American companies.
The delegation's visit is to be held during September or at the beginning of October.
