US embassy in Damascus announces US 2001 diversity immigrant visa program
Regional, Politics, 8/4/1999

The US embassy in Damascus said in a statement that the US government has announced the 2001 Diversity Immigrant Visa Lottery.

Natives of all the Arab states in the region are eligible. Applicants must have either a high school education or equivalent, or at least two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience.

Entries will be selected at random by computer. Those selected may apply for immigrant visas.

Each person may submit one application. There is no initial application fee or special application form. The information required includes the applicant's full name, date of birth, place of birth, telephone number, native country and a recent photograph. The application must be typed or written clearly on a plain piece of paper in the English alphabet.

The application period is from October 4 - November 3, 1999, and requirements and addresses are the same as in last year's lottery.
