Libya to host African summit in September

Libya will host an African summit in September to revise the charter of the Organization of African Unity.
OAU spokesman Ibrahim El-Doksh said yesterday that leaders of member states will revise the organization's charter that was established 36 years ago in a conference that will be held in the Libyan city of Syrte on September 6 - 9.
He added in a press conference in Addis Ababa, the headquarters of the organization, that Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi suggested that with the challenges posed by the new millennium the OAU must be ready to move rapidly to revise the charter that was issued in 1963.
He added that an OAU committee was established 20 years ago to revise the charter, but it did not make progress.
