King Mohammed VI pardons 46,212 prisoners

King Mohammed VI has pardoned 46,212 prisoners on the occasion of his accession to the Alaouite throne. Moroccan Justice Minister Omar Azziman, who announced Friday (July 30, which is the new Throne Day) the news on TV immediately after the king's throne speech, said 7,988 inmates (ill, aged, young, disabled and pregnant women) were granted free pardon while the others had their prison terms reduced.
The throne day will be celebrated in Morocco every July 30 where under the reign of King Hassan II, the Throne Day was celebrated in Morocco on March 3.
