French, Czech companies compete to win Alexandria metro

The head of Egyptian assembly for Borg El-Arab investors, Mohammed Farge Amer, said there is a competition between French and Czech companies to construct 55 km of lines valued at 200 million Egyptian pounds for Borg El-Arab metro in Alexandria.
Farag said that foreign companies have taken part in the bidding because of their participation with Egyptian businessmen to carry out the project on the B.O.T. (build - operate - transfer) system.
The Borg El-Arab project is considered the first Egyptian project for railways to be implemented by this method.
Farag added that the volume of total production for the city amounted to nearly LE 4.5 billion last year, adding that exports amounted to 125 million pounds to different foreign markets.
