Jordan: King Abdullah to free-trade zone in disguise
Jordan, Politics, 7/30/1999

Jordan's King Abdullah Bin Hussien, disguised himself as a television correspondent and went to a free-trade zone in El-Zarkaa, 30 km from Amman, riding a rented car without guards in the company of the information manger at the royal divan and carrying a television camera.

The king and his assistant patrolled the region, where he asked Arab citizens and investors there about the atmosphere for investment. He spent five hours listening to the problems and obstacles facing them, till the region's officials noticed, then they stopped the interviews, saying he had no license or prior permission.

At that time the king revealed his identity and held an open dialogue with the people on the atmosphere for investment. He promised the investors that he would work to solve their problems.

King Abdullah has paid several sudden visits to governmental services since he came to power.
