German nuclear submarines sales to Israel harmful to peace

Syria expressed yesterday its resentment toward reports of the sale of three German nuclear submarines to Israel, describing this news as a barrier in the way of the European role in the peace process.
The official Tishreen newspaper said yesterday that it is illogical and irrational that a European country would supply nuclear submarines to the Israeli arsenal at a time when Washington and its allies place pressure to prevent sales of weapons to the Arab states.
The newspaper said the submarines were presented to Israel at low or symbolic prices, to encourage Israel's government to be more obstinate.
It added that the sale causes great harm to Europe's role and credibility in the region.
