Iraq protests attacks to UN
Iraq-UN, Military, 7/30/1999
Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed Sa'eed al-Sahaf sent a letter to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan holding the US and Britain responsible for "acts of aggression" against Iraq, the Iraqi News Agency said yesterday.
The letter dealt with a July 18 incident in which Iraq said 17 Iraqis were killed and 17 wounded during bombings of "service installations" in Iraq, adding that the attacks also destroyed houses and caused damages.
The letter said the attack was in contradiction of Security Council resolution 687 and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.
Iraq also submitted a note to the Arab League's general secretariat informing the AL of flights of US warplanes that originate in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait into Iraqi airspace.
