Succession conditions in Morocco reassuring for foreign investors
Morocco, Business, 7/28/1999

The good conditions of the succession of King Mohammed Ben Al-Hassan to the throne after the demise last Friday of his father, the late King Hassan II, are reassuring foreign investors in Morocco, stated the French economic daily La Tribune on Tuesday.

In a story entitled "business milieux speak of continuity in Morocco" the daily dealt with investment prospects in the kingdom, following the demise of the late sovereign, and published statements by some executives of foreign enterprises operating in Casablanca.

The daily stated that King Mohammed ben Al-Hassan has several assets, mainly an important asset of friendship, political consensus at home and abroad and his very youth.

"The legitimacy of the monarchy and of the institutions, and the current alternation experience are all token of the country's perenniality," the daily quoted general managing director of the branch of la Societe Generale in Morocco, Laurent Goudard, as saying.

General delegate of EDF in Morocco, Henri Boyer, on his part said the responsible attitude adopted by the political class and the consensus around the new king as are all signs prompting optimism.

In this reassuring political-economic context, French enterprises maintain their trust in Morocco, the daily stated.
