Khartoum: Independent paper banned
Sudan, Politics, 7/28/1999
A source at the editing department of the independent Sudanese daily al-Rai al-Am said on Tuesday that the national council for the press decided on Monday to suspend the release of the paper on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The council criticized the paper for publishing on July 11 and 17 six articles, five of which criticize the sanctions imposed on the press while a fifth article strongly criticizes the Sudanese government.
Earlier the national council for press in Sudan suspended the release of the paper on July 5 for publishing articles that it said contradict the press and publication law in the country.
