Sudan prefers Libyan mediation in reconciliation with opposition
Sudan-Libya, Politics, 7/27/1999
Sudan announced yesterday that they prefer to make Libyan mediation rather than Egyptian mediation to achieve reconciliation with the Sudanese opposition.
The secretary for political affairs in the ruling party, Mohammed El-Hassan, stated that he preferred to convene the reconciliation meetings in a neutral country.
The Sudanese official also expressed his hope that Libyan efforts would succeed to halt bloodshed and achieve reconciliation in Sudan.
On the other hand, El-Sadek El-Mahdy , head of Sudanese Ummah party and former prime minister visited Libya heading a delegation comprising Mubarak El-Fadel, secretary general of Sudanese Democratic National Alliance abroad, and Omar Nour El-Din, secretary general of Ummah Party, to discuss Sudanese reconciliation, giving it great importance after the decision of the US Congress on June 15 1999, calling on the US administration to impose an air embargo on southern Sudan, which creates real fears of dividing Sudan, implying many dangers that could destabalize the situation in the whole region.
