Abu Ali Mustafa, rather than Habash, to meet with Arafat
Palestine, Politics, 7/27/1999

The People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine on Monday announced that a delegation from the front led by its assistant secretary general, Abu Ali Mustafa, will meet with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat at the beginning of August in Cairo, thereby denying reports that the front's secretary general, George Habash will meet with Arafat.

A member of the front's political bureau, Maher al-Taher, said, "Abu Ali Mustafa will lead a delegation from the front's political bureau," heading for Cairo within the coming days and that, "Habash will await the results of the dialogue and in light of these results he will define his later stand."

Al-Taher added that the front "decided to maintain a dialogue with the Fatah movement during the coming days in order to pave the way for launching a pan-Palestinian national dialogue, including all political forces on the Palestinian arena with the objective to restoring the PLO's unity and adhering to the national and unswerving stances of the Palestinian people, especially their rights to self-determination and the establishment of the Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a capital."

The chairman of the Palestinian National Council, Salim al-Zanoun, announced on Sunday that Arafat will meet with Habash on August 1 in Cairo.
