Al-Assad, King Abdullah review Middle East developments

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and King Abdullah of Jordan on Monday in Damascus reviewed the latest political developments, contacts in both the regional and international arenas and efforts to revitalize the Middle East peace process.
The Jordanian king also briefed President al-Assad in their two meetings in Damascus on Monday on the results of his contacts in and outside the region.
Earlier in the day, King Abdullah of Jordan arrived in Damascus. He was welcomed at the Damascus airport by President Hafez al-Assad. King Abdullah was also welcomed by the Syrian vice presidents, premier, foreign minister, Cabinet ministers and other high-ranking Syrian officials.
At the Damascus al-Chaab palace, President al-Assad and the king held a meeting attended by members of the two sides' delegations. This meeting was also followed by a closed-door meeting between President al-Assad and King Abdullah.
Later in the afternoon King Abdullah left Damascus.
