Koutla Parties Underline Mobilization Behind King Mohammed
Morocco, Politics, 7/25/1999
The four Moroccan parties forming the "Koutla" (Arabic word for bloc/former opposition parties) have voiced mobilization behind King Mohammed Ben Al-Hassan to consolidate the gains achieved by Morocco under the reign of the late king Hassan II and to accomplish more achievements.
In a statement run this Sunday by the press, the four parties said they will remain faithful to the memory and to the way traced by the late sovereign and that Morocco will remember for ever the late monarch's laudable initiatives for the country's independence and for perfecting the territorial integrity.
The statement equally hailed the tireless efforts made by the late King Hassan II to build up a modern Morocco, a state based on the precepts of Islam, the protection of collective and individual freedoms and the defense of human rights.
The Koutla parties, the statement went on, record "with pride the leading role played by the late sovereign in defending Arab and Islamic causes, and his tireless struggle for the liberation of holy Jerusalem (Al-Quds) and for the recognition of the Palestinian people's legitimate rights."
The Koutla parties voiced their saddened condolences to King Mohammed Ben Al-Hassan, to all the members of the royal family and to the Moroccan people.
The four parties forming the koutla are the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), the Istiqlal Party (PI), the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Organization for democratic and popular action (OADP).
The USFP, the PI and the PPS are all participating in the center-left coalition government led by socialist Abderrahmane Youssoufi.
Several other Moroccan parties have voiced in statements published in their dailies deep sorrow and pain following the death of King Hassan II who had an unmatched love to his country and people.
The Moroccan political parties pointed out that King Hassan II's death is a loss not only for Morocco but for the whole world and that King Mohammed Ben Al Hassan is the symbol of the country's unity and represents, like his late father, continuity, development and prosperity.
