Intensive Israeli bombardment against south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 7/23/1999

Israeli occupation forces on Thursday continued their attacks against areas adjacent to the occupied part of south Lebanon. Lebanese security sources said the occupation artillery targeted on Thursday and Wednesday night the woods of Habboush and Kafer Roumman and al-Tuffah district heights and al-Rayhan hills. Several artillery shells were dropped on the said areas and the bombardment coincided with mopping-up operations, using machine guns.

Lebanese security sources added that the Israeli occupation artillery positioned in Balat on Thursday afternoon resumed firing on the towns of Kafra, Yater and Jib Sweid in the western sector of south Lebanon. These attacks were coincided with intensive flying of Israeli warplanes at low altitude, carrying out mock and provocative raids against the targeted areas.

In retaliation, the Lebanese resistance detonated a large explosive that targeted an Israeli armored vehicle near the Lebanese borders with Israel and resulted in losses and damages.

In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said that one of its groups detonated the explosive when an Israeli armored vehicle carrying military equipment and soldiers passed between the border positions of Daier, al-Jamal, al-Bayyad and al-Raheb.

The statement stressed that an Israeli vehicle was directly hit, and its occupants were killed or wounded.
