Damascus speaks about resuming peace negotiations with Israel soon

The official Syrian radio broadcast yesterday said that negotiations with Israel could be resumed within weeks.
The Syrian radio said that reaching an agreement is not impossible despite its expected difficulty, confirming Damascus' concern with the new opportunity, waiting for Israel to adopt a more developed stance towards peace process.
A high-ranking Israeli official has said that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak is ready to withdraw comprehensively from the occupied Golan Heights to achieve peace with Syria. This was mentioned in phone talks held between US President Bill Clinton and Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, it was disclosed.
