Arafat to meet opposition group leader George Habash in Cairo
Palestine, Politics, 7/22/1999

Palestinian President Yasser Arafat is due meet with George Habash, the secretary general of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine, in August. They are to discuss the re-establishment to the organization's corporations on the basis of democracy.

The permanent Palestinian deputy at the Arab League, Mohammed Sobieh, said the meeting between Arafat and Habash is to be held under the auspices of Palestinian leaders abroad, aiming at reconciling points of view toward the peace process.

He added that the agenda of the meeting includes the re-establishment of corporations affiliated to the PLO on the basis of democracy, securing the participation of everybody in its departments.

The front will call for the reformation of the Palestinian National Council and holding pure democratic elections in all places, adding that Arafat seems to be flexible towards Habash's demands.
