Moussa: Egypt has doubts over Israeli intentions toward Wye
Egypt, Politics, 7/21/1999

Egypt is in doubt of Israel's committment to the Wye River accord, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said yesterday.

"Doubts over the credibility and effectiveness of peace moves have started to arise," Moussa said, adding, "We hope to be assured that the agreements will be implemented, settlements will be halted and that we will move towards a real peace process."

Moussa said that a reported Israeli "reluctance in implementing the Wye River accord and about settlements" harms the peace process. "These actions give indications contradictory to what we believed or hoped," he stated.

Moussa also expressed Egypt's views on the role the United States is to play in the peace process, saying, "The effectiveness of this U.S. role, should remain the role of a fair broker. The U.S. role is important on condition that it must be objective and accepted by both parties, and this is what we expect and hope, he added."
