New executions in Iraq
Iraq, Politics, 7/21/1999
The Iraqi opposition Communist Party has asserted that some 58 Iraqis who are accused of treason were hanged on April 13 in Abu Gharib prison near Baghdad.
AFP quoted a statement by the Communist Party from Shaqlawa in the region of Kurdistan, which is out of the control of the Iraqi government, as saying that the prisoners, whose names were presented in a list ,were executed at the orders of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and that they were accused of acts of treason for their attempts to damage the government.
The statement appealed to the Iraqi to voice their solidarity in the battle launched by the party against the government and their condemnation of the government and to demand that this government honor human rights and democracy in Iraq.
The statement also calls for pressuring the government in Iraq and forcing it to put an end to the series of brutal executions in its prisons.
