US making adjustments, but Libya sanctions to remain
Libya, Politics, 7/20/1999
US President Bill Clinton said yesterday in a report on Libyan sanctions to the US Congress that the US Office of Foreign Assets Control is making amendments to the regulations on unilateral sanctions against Libya to allow the sale of "agricultural commodities and products, medicine, and medical supplies" to Libya according to changes the US administration made to sanctions earlier this year.
However, the statement said the US will work to maintain UN sanctions, which are currently suspended, until Libya fulfills "the remaining UNSCR requirements for lifting UN sanctions." He added, "U.S. unilateral sanctions remain in force, and I will continue to exercise the powers at my disposal to apply these sanctions fully and effectively, as long as they remain appropriate."
