Morocco dedicates $31.1 million dredger boat
Morocco, Environment, 7/20/1999
Morocco launched Monday a new dredger boat used for scooping or sucking mud, stones or sand from the bottom of a river, canal or port.
The dredger, dubbed "Moustakbal," to be manned by a dozen persons, is 83 meters long and is equipped with a high-tech machine to work non-stop for three weeks and remove up to 300,000 m3 of 25 m deep mud in two weeks.
"Moustakbal," which brings up to eight the dredgers owned by Morocco, is fitted with an ecologic recycling system offering the possibility of using the removed sand in construction or in reinforcing the beaches coastal belts, contributing hence to environment protection.
