Morocco's trade with Maghreb states is less than $300 million

Morocco's trade exchanges with the four other states of the Arab Maghreb Union did not exceed in 1998 $300 million, accounting for 1.8% of its overall external trade exchange.

According to the exchange office, Moroccan exports to the four countries (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia) were worth $157.7 million, representing 2.3% of its exports while imports were valued at $140 million, representing 1.4% of its imports.

Libya is Morocco's first trade partner with $23.9 million of imports and $98.2 million of exports, followed by Algeria ($72.6 million of imports and $10.3 million of exports), Tunisia ($42.7 million of imports and $39.7 million of exports) and Mauritania ($0.26 million of imports and $9.4 million of exports).
