Report: Palestinian front's bureau meets in Amman
Palestine, Politics, 7/20/1999
The Jordanian weekly al-Majd said on Monday that the political bureau of the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine was due to meet in Amman on Monday under the chairmanship of the front's secretary general, George Habash, after several members of the bureau arrived in Amman from Damascus and Gaza.
The Jordanian paper added that the front's political bureau is scheduled to discuss the decision taken by the front's central committee to open a dialogue with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, a decision that a member of the political bureau in the front, Abdul Rahim Mallouh, had two days earlier informed Arafat about and was greatly welcomed by the latter.
The paper added, quoting well-informed Palestinian sources, that Arafat had proposed to start a dialogue with the front's leadership in Cairo or Amman by the beginning of August.
The paper added that Arafat also expressed his readiness to intervene with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak to permit Abu Ali Mustafa, the front's assistant secretary general, to return to the self-rule areas after he had been prevented from that more than one year ago.
