King Abdullah discharges chief of staff of the Jordanian army
Jordan, Politics, 7/19/1999

Jordan's King Abdullah Bin Hussein issued a royal decree discharging the joint chief of staff for Jordan's army, Marshal Abd El-Hafez Marie El-Kaanba, and appointed Lieutenant General Mohammed Yusef El-Malakawi in another royal decree, which also appointed Marshal El-Kannba as the king's military advisor instead of Hamid El-Fayiz, who was retired.

The move replacing the head of the Jordanian armed forces came five months after King Abdullah assumption of power, succeeding his father, King Hussein.

King Abdullah discharged some assistants to the joint chiefs of staff one month after taking power, which was a radical change in the army leadership.

The new change comprised Hamid El-Fayez, the military advisor for the late and current king, as he was discharged and the joint chief of staff was appointed to replace him.
