Iran reschedules Syrian debts

The Iranian daily Abrar said on Sunday that Tehran has agreed to reschedule a Syrian debts estimated at 140 billion Syrian pounds (US $280 billion). The paper added that such Iranian approval of rescheduling the debts would avail paying back the Syrian debts within 10 years and reveal the desire of the two countries' leaders to develop bilateral relations and deepen them.
It added that this approval still needs the ratification of the Iranian Shoura council.
The Iranian paper said that Tehran intends to build a hospital and a school in Syria and to renovate holy shrines there. Worth mentioning that Tehran is establishing firm political and economic relations with Syria, its main ally in the Middle East. The two sides, however, carry out periodical consultation concerning bilateral relations and regional matters. Last May, the Iranian President Muhammad Khatami visited Syria and discussed with President Hafez al-Assad bilateral cooperation and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
