Commodity reduction exemption among Arab states
Regional, Economics, 7/19/1999

At the conclusion of its meeting on Sunday in Cairo, the Arab League executive and follow-up committee has agreed to grant some commodities requested by certain Arab states an exemption from the reduction decided within the framework of the Arab free trade zone.

AL Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs Abdul Rahman al-Suheibani said these commodities are linked under production industries in the countries which asked for the reduction, namely Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia and Morocco. He added that the AL committee has agreed to form a committee of experts to study and classify agricultural and livestock commodities.

The Syrian products which were exempted are cotton yarns, underwear, ready-made garments, cotton fabrics, carpets, marble, tourist cars and furniture.
