Amr Moussa confers with al-Mahdi, al-Meirghani

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa met on Sunday in Cairo with former Sudanese Prime Minister al-Sadeq al-Mahdi and the chairman of the opposition Democratic National Alliance, Muhammad Othman al-Meirghani, in the framework of Egyptian mediation and efforts to establish peace in Sudan.

An official source at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement in Cairo on Sunday that the talks dealt with the results of the Egyptian contacts aimed at achieving comprehensive reconciliation and understanding concerning the convening of a conference on reconciliation at the desire of both the Sudanese government and opposition.

On Saturday the Sudanese ambassador in Cairo, Ahmad Abdul Halim, announced following his meeting with Moussa that Egypt is making a strong initiative aimed at preparing the atmosphere to convene a pan-national conference for Sudanese reconciliation.
