Sudan welcomes improving the relations with U.S.A.
Sudan-USA, Politics, 7/17/1999

Sudan welcomed indications of normalization with the United States and said it looks forward to a positive U.S. role to help end the war in southern Sudan. Sudanese Foreign Minister Mostafa Osman Ismail said this in response to a U.S. declaration that it will appoint an envoy to Sudan.

Relations between the U.S. and Sudan were very tense as in last August the U.S. shelled the El-Shefa medical factory in Khartoum, which the U.S. said was related to the dissident Osama Bin Laden and that it manufactured chemical components for chemical weapons.
