Consultations for convening Euro-African summit in Cairo
Regional-European Union, Politics, 7/17/1999

The preparatory committee that emerged from the general trusteeship for the Organization of African Unity that includes Algeria, Egypt and Burkina Faso is currently holding consultations with Europe to agree on the special arrangements for organizing a summit between the European Union and the OAU in Cairo during April, 2000.

The European side in these consultations is represented by representatives of the current, former and coming presidents of the European Union.

The 71st session of the foreign ministers council for countries of Organization of African Unity agreed on convening this summit during meetings that preceded the OAU summit, which concluded on Thursday in Algeria.

The idea of convening this summit was ratified by the African summit in Ouagadougou convened in summer 1998.
