Morocco and South Africa to step up energy cooperation

A delegation from the South African power company "Eskom" is visiting Morocco to review ways of fostering partnership with Moroccan National Electricity Office (ONE) in matters of energy and related sectors.

During their talks with head of the Moroccan electricity office, Driss Benhima, the "Eskom" executives surveyed their strategy and role played by the firm in the development of the power sector in South Africa. They also presented a project of a nuclear plant powered with a safe and a new environment-friendly technology at affordable price.

Morocco, which is planning to build a nuclear desalination plant, has set an ambitious energy plan providing for speeding up rural electrification programs, attracting more foreign investments, encouraging the use of renewable energies, mining prospecting and peaceful use of nuclear energy.
