El-Bashir: Reasons for tense relations with Egypt removed
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 7/15/1999
Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir described his meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on the margins of the Organization of African Unity summit in Algeria as being good.
In a statement he made to the Sudanese news agency after his return to Khartoum yesterday evening, he said that a discussion of Sudanese - Egyptian relations took place during the meeting, adding that all reasons that led to tense relations were almost removed and that the meeting tackled Egypt's participation in achieving peace and reconciliation in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa praised the meeting held by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak with Sudanese President Omar El-Beshir. "The meeting is a key step on the road of the progress of bilateral ties," said Moussa, speaking of continued progress in these ties. He declined to unveil the unresolved problems between Egypt and Sudan, saying that progress is under way, and he dismissed reports that Mubarak's meeting with Beshir was cool.
